This and That: Volunteer Tea, Grade 8 Grad, Talent Show...

Volunteer Tea Thanks

Last week we celebrated the many community volunteers who have helped us make this a fantastic school year. We couldn't do all we do without each and every one of our dedicated volunteers. Thanks to all of you, and thank you to the many staff members who contributed items to the Volunteer Breakfast.

Grade 8 Graduation

We would like to wish all of our grade 8's a happy and successful celebration tonight as they cross the stage to receive their diplomas followed by dancing the night away. They are a special group of young soon-to-be men and women who demonstrate exceptional character. We wish them all the best in high school in the fall. You will all go places in this world. Remember the lessons you have learned about school, relationships, and life in your short or long time with us.

Beach Day

Wednesday is Beach Day! It's your last chance to earn colour house points! Dress in your beachiest clothes and show some school spirit, Ravens!

JRPS Annual Talent Show

James Robinson's Got Talent! JRPS students will be hosting our annual talent show on Thursday, June 27th starting at 8:40 a.m. We can't wait to see what our kids intend to showcase! We've invited Simon Cowell, but he's otherwise engaged at that time!

Early Dismissal on June 27th

School ends at 11:30 on Thursday. Please make arrangements for your child's dismissal at this time. School buses will be running at the end of the half day to take bus students to their regular stops.

Library Books on the Loose

Two things about library borrowing:

  1. If your child has a JRPS library book at home, it needs to be returned ASAP. If a library book has met with some unfortunate end while in your child's possession, please contact Mrs. Truscott for next steps.
  2. We are starting a summer lending program from our library in which gr. K-7 students can sign out up to 10 books from our library over the summer and return them in September. Information was sent home with all studentsPlease contact Mrs. Truscott if the flyer never made it to your hands!

Looking Forward, Looking Back, Celebrating the Moment 2018--2019

Wow! 2018-2019 seems to have passed through in the blink of an eye!

A time to look forward, celebrate the moment and look back.

Looking forward is a chance for all of us to build on what we have learned and explore exciting new possibilities. Celebrating the moment – a step taken or a goal achieved – gives us all a chance to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Looking back gives us a chance to review and reflect on what we have learned.  Please take some time to reflect with your child in the summer.

Looking forward please take some time to help your child set goals for what they can accomplish this summer. Parents, please also take some time also to speak with your children about their goals for the upcoming school year: hopes and dreams they may have as they think about changing to their new grades, making new friends, and taking on the challenges of a new year.

Please consider becoming a volunteer or member of our School Council to help further along the growth and development of our school programs and opportunities for all. Our school is stronger with your involvement.

Celebrating the moment - Our staff are continually learning and growing together to engage our students in authentic learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.  As partners in education, together we have supported many children in helping to achieve their goals.  As well, our JRPS staff has been able to provide many varied and rich learning opportunities for our students through the arts, athletics and academics this school year. 2018-2019 was an incredible year for us all. Please join us in appreciating our incredible staff at James Robinson. Their dedication to our student’s academic development, critical thinking skills, social skill development, problem solving skills, athletic development, character development, and healthy life-style choices to name a few, are areas we have seen tremendous growth this school year. We are so very proud of our student’s accomplishments. Thank you for your support in all areas. Developing the hearts and minds of our little Ravens definitely takes a team effort!

Looking back, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents in our community who give so freely of their time and expertise on School Council, or other volunteer activities. We also would like to thank the parents who drop in regularly to talk with us about their child’s growth and development and their education at JRPS. Feel free to come by the office at anytime to talk about your concerns and suggestions for improvement – or any questions about our school programs and supports available.  We value creativity, innovation and collaboration to create an engaged school community. We truly look forward to our continued journey together.

James Robinson is a school where people care about one another. We are committed to academic excellence. We are committed to the well being of everyone in our community. We support one another. We strive to provide the best learning opportunities for students and staff. James Robinson truly is a great place to be!

We would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to some some Ravens who are leaving the Nest: Mrs. Richey, Mrs. Mathew, Mr. Kennedy, Mrs. Perry, Ms. Wong, Ms. McDonald, Ms. Patton, and Ms. Forward. Best of luck in your new and exciting adventures ~ hold on to your Raven feathers for when our paths cross again. We would like to welcome Ms. Sousa, Mrs. Guglietti and Mrs. Terrigno to our team.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to seeing your faces and hearing your summer stories on September 3rd.

Fun Fair Update

Last week's Fun Fair was a huge success! Parents, staff, and students had a wonderful time joining in an celebrating our great school as the 2018-2019 school year is coming to a close.

The proceeds from Fun Fair also benefit our students by allowing us to purchase items on our School Fundraising Plan, such as technology, field trips, sporting equipment, Scientists in the Schools, and other exciting program enhancements that benefit our students.

We made over $5000 toward our fundraising goals with the event. Wow!

Thank you to all members of the community who generously donated items, food, money, and/or their precious time in order to make the 2019 Fun Fair such a huge success.

A giant shout out to the parent organizing committee who spent weeks organizing and orchestrating the event. You make JRPS a great place to be!

Volunteer Tea: Wednesday, June 19

Our school program enhancements and community supports are in large part due to the army of volunteer parents and guardians who selflessly give up their time to jump in and roll up their sleeves to help.

On Wednesday, June 19th, JRPS would like to recognize all of our parent, grandparent, community volunteers and lunch assistants who have supported our school over the 2019-2020 school year by inviting them to our annual Volunteer Tea.

Invitations will be coming home with students this week.

Date: June 19th
When: 8:15-8:45 a.m.
Where: JRPS Library

We hope to see you there!
We couldn't do it without you:
Thanks for making JRPS a great place to be!

June is Pride Month!

York Region District School Board will be participating in and hosting several Pride month events to honour and celebrate the history and culture of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

At JRPS, we will be flying the pride flag for the month of June.

The Pride Flag is internationally recognized as a symbol of pride, hope and diversity. In 1978, Gilbert Baker, a San Francisco artist, designed the Pride Flag as a response to the need for a symbol to support the LGBT rights movement. The current flag has six stripes, each with its own meaning:

Early Release Day June 27th

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being. On Thursday, June 27, 2019, an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 27, 2019 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:30 AM.

Buses will be running their regular routes at 11:30.

Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
