Organization Planning for 2019-2020

As we begin to organize for September, it is important that we have the most up to date information from all our families. Please help us!

If you know that your child will not be returning to JRPS for the 2019-2020 school year for any reason (except for Grade 8’s graduating to Grade 9), please inform the school office in writing as soon as possible.

Part of our September organization process is determining classes for next fall.

When we build classes, the following criteria are taken into consideration:

  • Class sizes consistent with Ministry and Board Guidelines
  • A range of performance levels within each class
  • Gender balance
  • Placement of ESL or Special Education students that facilitates resource or withdrawal programs
  • Promoting positive social relationships while minimizing unproductive associations
  • Matching learning and teaching styles whenever possible

If there is information regarding your child of which you feel we are not currently aware, and which would be pertinent to placement decisions, please advise Ms. Patrick and the homeroom teacher in writing (letter or e-mail) by May 3rd, 2019

Please be aware that we do not take specific requests for teachers as part of this process.

As every year, due to Ministry class size restrictions, homeroom classes are tentative until the end of September.

Hi All!
I wanted to post a quick update regarding the field closure.  I know this is a hard one for many of our students - it is for us as educators too...we'd love to see them running off some of their energy and playing field games with their peers!!  Due to the state of moisture on the field, we have been instructed by Plant Services to close the fields during dormant/early growth phases (i.e., now).  We will open the field again as soon as we have a few sunny days and get rid of the water!  Please be assured that the Caretaking Team and I will monitor it daily and open it as soon as it is safe to do so.  Thank you all for your understanding and patience...let's hope for a few days of sunshine :)
Be well,
Krista

We are pleased to announce that we are now offering online registration for our elementary program. Registering online will eliminate wait times and long line-ups.  To facilitate registration, on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 4:00 pm, online registration will be available for the first time through Edsby on our webpage: www.yrdsb.ca/international-languages

Currently we have approximately 15,000 students registered in our programs across the Board.  Students from SK to Grade 8 are eligible to take language classes that run once a week during weekday evenings (from Tuesday to Friday) or Saturday mornings for 2.5 hours. There are many new and exciting things in store for the upcoming 2019/2020 school year, such as the opportunity to learn the Indigenous languages Ojibwe and Cree.
Please note that due to space limitations, registration applications will take place on a first-come-first-serve basis. Classes may be cancelled due to low enrolment or lack of teacher availability.
